Wolves boss names what he ‘must do better in future’ after rare Spurs moment

Wolves manager Gary O’Neil acknowledges that he needs to improve his self-control following an unusual incident during their victory against Tottenham. O’Neil confessed that he allowed his emotions to get the better of him when Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a comeback win, and he breached Premier League protocol by leaving his technical area to celebrate Mario Lemina’s 97th-minute winning goal.

While O’Neil’s exuberance is understandable given the remarkable nature of Wolves’ turnaround, he suggests that the intensity of his celebration may have been somewhat unprofessional. Despite the joy it brought to fans and observers, including journalists, O’Neil recognizes the responsibility of managers to maintain composure.

Gary O'Neil was delighted with Wolves' late win over Tottenham – but perhaps a little too much so.

Reflecting on the incident in the post-match press conference, O’Neil admitted, “That was probably my biggest celebration! I don’t know what happened, really, just lots of energy and I couldn’t stand still.” He added with a laugh, “I had to run somewhere, and we’re not allowed on the pitch, so the side of the pitch was one of the last options. I’ll try and control myself better in the future.”

This victory against Tottenham is not the first time Wolves have defeated a top-four side at home this season, as they previously secured a notable 2-1 win over Manchester City in September. With upcoming matches against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal at Molineux, there are further opportunities for similar results in the future.
