Arsenal is reportedly planning a move for a player who has been a target for Newcastle in the upcoming January transfer window. The player, currently based in Saudi Arabia since the summer, has been linked with a move to St James’ Park recently.

However, there might be a hurdle in the form of a proposed temporary ban on incoming loans between teams with the same owners, which Premier League clubs are expected to vote on at a shareholder meeting next week. This ban could impact Newcastle’s pursuit of Ruben Neves, as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia currently holds an 80% stake in Newcastle and controls Neves’ current club, Al-Hilal.

This potential obstacle has reportedly opened the door for other clubs, with Arsenal showing interest in Neves, as per talkSPORT. The 26-year-old midfielder excelled at Wolves in the Premier League and is highly regarded by Arsenal’s sporting director Edu.

 Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is eager to reinforce the midfield in January, especially with challenges in settling on a consistent trio in the opening months of the season. Injuries to key players, such as Thomas Partey’s extended absence due to a thigh problem and Martin Odegaard missing the last three matches, have further heightened the need for midfield reinforcements. The Arsenal captain has been dealing with a hip issue, and recent concussion from a training incident led him to miss the last two matches before the international break.

Kai Havertz, a summer signing, has also faced challenges settling in, making Declan Rice the only constant in the midfield for Arsenal.
