During the summer transfer window, Rangers, under the management of Michael Beale, made nine additions to the squad with the aim of competing for the Scottish Premiership title. However, after a slow start to the season and struggles for form from some new signings, Beale was sacked and replaced by Philippe Clement. Now, as the January transfer window approaches, there are expectations that Rangers may need to sell players to fund new additions.
One player who has been suggested as a potential departure in January is Sam Lammers. The Dutch attacking midfielder, signed for £3 million in the summer, has faced criticism for his performances, scoring only twice in his first 23 appearances for Rangers. Some suggest that if a decent offer comes in for Lammers, it might be worth considering selling him to bring in better quality.
Lammers has been criticized for his ineffectiveness when deployed just behind the striker, and he was recently dropped to the bench by Clement, with Tom Lawrence preferred in the number 10 role. There are other players, including Todd Cantwell and Kieran Dowell, who prefer playing in Lammers’ position. Given Lammers’ slow start in Scotland, some believe that selling him in January could be a wise move.
The idea is that the money from a potential sale could allow Clement to add much-needed quality to the Rangers squad as they aim to catch up with Celtic in the title race. While it remains unknown if any team would be willing to pay a similar fee for Lammers in January, an early exit is not ruled out.
