Newcastle forced to consider 21-year-old after latest striker injury

Newcastle United and manager Eddie Howe are facing a challenging situation with a growing list of injuries, prompting the club to consider entering the transfer market in January. Currently, Newcastle is the club most severely affected by injuries, with 14 players, including the recent addition of Callum Wilson, unavailable for selection, as reported by Premier Injuries.

This injury crisis comes at a crucial time, with important fixtures in both the Champions League and upcoming Premier League matches on the horizon. The absence of key players, including Alexander Isak, emphasizes the need for reinforcements in the squad during the January transfer window.

CONFIRMED: Hugo Ekitike readies move after PSG inform striker he must leave | FootballTransfers US

According to 90Min, Newcastle is likely to revive their interest in 21-year-old striker Hugo Ekitike. Ekitike had previously opted for a move to Paris Saint-Germain over Newcastle in a previous transfer window but has struggled to secure playing time with the French giants, featuring only eight minutes in the 2023/24 campaign. Given his limited opportunities, it is suggested that Ekitike may be open to reassessing his options.

The potential move in January is expected to take the form of a loan initially, providing Newcastle with additional attacking options for the second half of the season. West Ham is also reportedly interested in Ekitike, indicating competition for the promising young striker’s services as they are in need of a striker themselves.
