Ex-Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock reveals management return plan

Neil Warnock, the experienced football manager, has expressed his eagerness to return to football management next year after being out of work since his departure from Huddersfield Town in September. Despite being linked with managerial positions at Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers, and Rotherham United in recent months, the 74-year-old, who has an impressive managerial career with over 1,600 matches, emphasized that he has no plans to retire.

While enjoying his break from the game, Warnock has indicated a willingness to take on a new managerial role after Christmas. He mentioned his typical start date for work in February and expressed a preference for managing a club that is mid-table, with the potential to compete for a playoff spot, rather than taking on a relegation battle with a team at the bottom of the league.

Warnock shared his thoughts with Sky Sports, stating, “It would be nice to have a club sort of mid-table that I could have a go at getting in the play-offs rather than somebody bottom of the league or second from bottom and I’ve got to just keep them up.” He also mentioned that his wife, Sharon, is supportive and would allow him to take on a managerial role for a few months if an opportunity arises.

During his tenure at Huddersfield Town, Warnock managed to keep the team in the Championship against the odds last season. He left the club in 16th position, having secured eight points from seven matches. His last game in charge was a thrilling 2-2 draw at home against Stoke City.

Since Warnock’s departure, Darren Moore has taken over as the manager at Huddersfield Town. However, Moore has struggled to win over the fans, with the team currently in 21st place in the Championship, just four points above the relegation zone. Huddersfield Town is set to face fourth-placed Southampton in their upcoming match on Saturday.
