Nicolo Zaniolo expressed his contentment with life in the Premier League and conveyed his belief that Aston Villa can be contenders in the race for Champions League qualification this season. The 24-year-old Italian forward, who arrived at Villa from Galatasaray on a summer loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy, has displayed promising performances in his initial 14 appearances but has yet to directly contribute to a goal.
Zaniolo was involved in the recent Serie A betting controversy, clarifying to investigators that his wagers were limited to card games on unregulated websites, with no involvement in betting on football matches. It is anticipated that he will receive a minor fine without facing any sporting sanctions.
In an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio following Italy’s draw with Ukraine, Zaniolo discussed his experience in the Premier League with Aston Villa. He praised the team’s strength and expressed confidence in their ability to compete against any opponent if they execute their game plan effectively.
“Aston Villa is a formidable team. We have upcoming matches against teams like Tottenham, which will be challenging, but we are strong, and we can triumph against anyone if we play to our potential. There are still many games ahead, and our objectives are distant, but we are undoubtedly a formidable team, and we can make our mark.”
Addressing his adaptation to the Premier League, Zaniolo acknowledged the need for time when undergoing such transitions. Despite the challenges faced by some Italians in recent years, he emphasized his happiness in the league and with Aston Villa as a team.
“Adapting to change always takes time. I’m content because the Premier League is an excellent league, and Aston Villa is a fantastic team. Nevertheless, there’s still room for improvement in my adaptation. I have ample time ahead, and I aim to showcase my qualities as I continue to settle into the league.”
