The Atlanta Falcons may face a challenge this week as their starting kicker, Younghoe Koo, was absent from practice once again on Wednesday. It appears the team is taking precautions in case Koo is unable to play in the upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. According to a report by Josh Kendall of The Athletic, the Falcons are bringing in veteran kicker Matthew Wright to their practice squad.
Kendall shared the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The Falcons have signed PK Matthew Wright to the practice after Younghoe Koo missed Wednesday’s practice due to a back issue. Wright has made 40-of-46 FGs in 23 career games.
The significance of Sunday’s game against the Saints cannot be understated, as the Saints currently lead the division with a 5-5 record, while the Falcons closely trail with a 4-6 record. A victory over the Saints could potentially propel the Falcons into a first-place tie with New Orleans in the NFC South division. The outcome of this pivotal game would undoubtedly benefit from the presence of a dependable kicker.
