Because of the current discord in the Newcastle United midfield, Eddie Howe intends to make changes.
The Magpies have used the same midfield three in each of their four games so far this season, with Sandro Tonali joining Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
They have struggled since their outstanding performance as a trio against Aston Villa. The last time out against Brighton, the midfield was overrun, which sparked rumors that Howe might change things up after the break for international play.
With Sean Longstaff and Elliot Anderson both awaiting opportunities to start their first game of the 2023–24 season, he most likely has the options to do just that.
And fortunately for the former, it appears like Will Howe will make a change on Saturday night against Brentford at home. Sean Longstaff will probably start the Brentford match.
The Telegraph reports that Longstaff will probably start this weekend’s match between Newcastle and Brentford.
According to journalist Luke Edwards’ claim, the 25-year-old will start after serving as a substitute in each of Newcastle’s first four matches.
Despite being a crucial player last season, Tonali has replaced Longstaff in the starting lineup because of an injury he sustained in the preseason. In the end, that is what put him on the bench.
But it now appears that the neighborhood kid will reclaim his spot when the Magpies play Brentford on Saturday night.
It is unclear who he will take over for. Bruno won’t start, as Howe has already given him the job. That implies that it will either be Joelinton or Tonali. Though it might be the latter because of his poor form, the former seems more likely to withdraw. The 27-year-old has obviously been out of shape, which has prevented him from controlling the midfield as effectively as he did under Howe in the past.
It’s the ideal time for a change on Saturday, and it appears like Longstaff’s return to the starting XI will bring about that alteration. And if he successfully defends his position, he might end up keeping it on Tuesday night at the San Siro against AC Milan.
