Charlton Athletic manager Michael Appleton has revealed key player will be sidelined gainst Cheltenham Town

Charlton Athletic manager Michael Appleton has revealed that Conor McGrandles will be sidelined for an estimated ‘four to six’ weeks due to a recent injury setback. The midfielder, aged 28, was substituted in a late November match against Cheltenham Town and subsequently missed the FA Cup fixture against Gillingham.

Expressing his concern, Appleton commented on the club’s official website, stating, “It’s not great news – it keeps following us a little bit at the minute, doesn’t it? He pulled out of training on Friday, like I mentioned, and unfortunately, the scan has revealed that he’s got a [grade] two b I believe, so we’re talking around four to six weeks.”

McGrandles’ absence poses a challenge for Charlton Athletic as they navigate through the festive season, aiming to climb the League One standings. The midfielder, who had fallen out of favor previously and spent the second half of the last season on loan at Cambridge United, had managed to regain his place in the squad under Appleton. This injury setback is particularly frustrating for McGrandles, who signed with Charlton in 2022 and has made 19 appearances for the club, seven of which were this season.

Despite the setback, Charlton will face upcoming challenges in EFL Trophy action against Reading and a league match against Cambridge, but unfortunately, McGrandles will not be available to play against his former team. His contract with Charlton is set to expire in June 2024, making him a free agent next year.
