Gareth Ainsworth has issued an injury update on QPR defender Steve Cook ahead of the Championship match against Sunderland on Saturday.
The 32-year-old was substituted at halftime in West Ham’s 2-0 win against Middlesbrough before the international break, with ex-Chelsea youngster Jake Clarke-Salter replacing him.
Cook has made four appearances for QPR since signing in the summer from Nottingham Forest.
Sunderland won 5-0 against Southampton before the international break and will visit Loftus Road on Saturday.
“You don’t want to give away team selection, but we’re working hard to try to get Steve back into the team and onto the pitch,” Ainsworth said on QPR’s YouTube account.
When he went through the door, he made a significant difference, with his first game being a win at Cardiff.
“He’s part of that group that’s leading the locker room, and he’s a key player for us.”
“We’ll make sure our best players are on the field on Saturday.”
“With what he’s done, who he is, and the leadership he’s brought to us, Steve is definitely in that group.”
“Sunderland are scoring goals for fun in their last game, and we need to make sure we keep that to a minimum.”
