Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has offered his prediction for the Premier League clash between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. Newcastle is seeking their first away win since their impressive 8-0 victory against Sheffield United in September, while Tottenham aims for their first win after securing just one point in their last five matches.
Speaking on his podcast, Seaman expressed concerns about Newcastle’s recent struggles away from home, evident in their 3-0 defeat to Everton. Despite factors like injuries, squad fatigue, and limited bench impact, Seaman pointed out individual errors, such as Miguel Almiron’s poor finish in the previous match.
Recognizing that Tottenham is a challenging venue for Newcastle, Seaman highlighted the intensity the home team plays with. He acknowledged that although Tottenham has significant injuries, they don’t face the added pressure of European or Carabao Cup fixtures. Seaman predicted a narrow victory for Tottenham, anticipating a 2-1 scoreline, which would level them on points with Manchester City and pose a threat to Newcastle’s Champions League aspirations.
While it’s challenging for Newcastle to replicate their extraordinary 6-1 win against Tottenham in April, Seaman suggested that Eddie Howe would want his team to display the same intensity and desire. Given Newcastle’s poor away record, Seaman noted the importance of any scrappy victory in the capital to get the team back on track.
