Leeds United is reportedly interested in signing KAA Gent left-back Archie Brown, but a deal in the January transfer window seems unlikely due to FIFA rules prohibiting players from representing three clubs in the same season. The 21-year-old, who began his career at Derby County and joined Gent from Lausanne in the summer, has attracted attention from Burnley, Everton, and clubs in Germany and Italy.
Despite the potential challenges in January, Brown’s reputation is said to be rising in Belgium, where he has been a standout performer for Gent, currently sitting third in the league and advancing to the last-16 of the Europa Conference League.
Leeds is facing a left-back dilemma, with Junior Firpo’s inconsistent form and injuries, Sam Byram’s injury proneness, and Djed Spence, a right-back on loan, starting at left-back against Sunderland. While Archie Gray has been performing well as a makeshift right-back, there is a pressing need for a long-term solution in the full-back areas.
The report suggests that a summer move for Brown would be more feasible, allowing Leeds to address the left-back position, which remains a priority for the club. In the meantime, the club might consider securing one or two full-backs in the January transfer window to address immediate needs.
