Leeds, Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday will be amongst those envious of what Huddersfield Town saw of creative ace
The ex-Chelsea player, Izzy Brown, faced a lack of stability in his football career and retired at the young age of 26 in April, following a second Achilles tendon rupture. Notably, Brown, who debuted for West Brom at 16, became the second-youngest player in Premier League history before joining Chelsea. Despite being a two-time England Under-20 international, his career primarily unfolded in the Football League. His 2021-22 season at Preston North End saw no appearances.
Brown’s journey was marked by frequent loans from Chelsea between 2015 and 2021. His only notable stint was at Huddersfield Town during the 2016/17 season, where he excelled, scoring seven goals and providing five assists, helping the Terriers secure promotion to the Premier League. However, subsequent spells at Brighton, Leeds, and Sheffield Wednesday were less successful.
After joining Brighton following Huddersfield’s promotion, Brown struggled to make an impact, failing to score or provide assists in four Premier League starts. A loan move to Leeds in the 2018-19 season also fell short due to injuries, limiting him to two appearances and nine minutes of Championship football. Subsequent loan spells at Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday, especially the latter, proved disappointing, with minimal contributions as the Owls were relegated in the 2020/21 season.
While Brown showcased his potential at Huddersfield, his career failed to reach the same heights elsewhere. Fans from other clubs may lament not witnessing the promising player seen by the Huddersfield faithful.
