Eddie Howe releases Kieran Trippier message and reacts to cup heartbreak at Chelsea

Eddie Howe has delivered a heartfelt message of support to Kieran Trippier following his late mistake and missed penalty in the recent defeat to Chelsea. The match, which ended in a heartbreaking loss in the Carabao Cup, saw Trippier’s 92nd-minute error leading to Chelsea’s equalizer, and he and Matt Ritchie subsequently missed penalties in the shootout.

Speaking after the game, Howe expressed his support for Trippier, acknowledging the player’s significant contributions to the team:

“He has taken the group to a different level. After giving us so much, it’s now our turn to support Kieran. I’m sure he doesn’t feel fantastic because he prides himself on his technical excellence & the quality of his defensive work. He’s been a transformative signing for us and has glued the dressing room together. He’s been the heartbeat of our performances.”

Trippier, who has been a standout performer for the team since the takeover, is currently going through a challenging period, and Howe emphasized the need for collective support.

In a conversation with Sky Sports post-match, Howe expressed the pain of the defeat and the team’s commendable defensive efforts:

“It hurts a lot. A very similar feeling to the one after Paris. The lads have given so much, lead for so long and defended really, really well, but didn’t quite get over the line.”

Despite technical challenges in the second half, Howe praised the team’s defensive excellence and acknowledged the heroic effort of the players. He highlighted the difficulties faced due to injuries and the need to quickly shift focus to upcoming fixtures, emphasizing the importance of maintaining form in the Premier League.

“It’s a very, very painful moment for us, especially off the back of the previous one (vs Milan). We have to accept it and digest it very quickly, as we have Luton on Saturday and must focus on our Premier League form.”
