Charlton Athletic has come to an agreement with winger Charlie Kirk to terminate his contract. The Addicks had invested £500,000 in signing Kirk from Crewe in August 2021, but the player struggled to make a significant impact under various managers at the South London club. During his time with Charlton, Kirk also had loan spells with both Blackpool and Burton Albion.
Originally contracted until the summer of 2025, Kirk’s departure marks a decision made for the benefit of all parties involved. Charlton’s technical director, Andy Scott, expressed the club’s well-wishes for Kirk’s future endeavors and explained that parting ways with the player is the beginning of the squad’s rebuilding process and the desired changes.
Scott acknowledged that Kirk faced challenges since joining the club and struggled to establish himself in the side. Despite the difficulties, the technical director praised Kirk’s professionalism and conduct around the training ground, emphasizing that the player did not cause any issues during his time with Charlton. The decision to terminate Kirk’s contract is seen as a step toward reshaping the squad and making necessary adjustments for the team’s future.
