Swindon Town manager Michael Flynn is eagerly anticipating the January transfer window, expressing the need to strengthen his squad after a 3-0 home defeat to Barrow and a series of recent injuries. Flynn acknowledged the impact of the injury list on the team’s performance and emphasized that the January window “can’t come quick enough.”
In the aftermath of the loss, Flynn, as reported by the Swindon Advertiser, stated, “The performance has got to be better. For me, the injury list has taken its toll and January can’t come quick enough.” He acknowledged the challenge of relying on a limited number of players week in and week out, particularly when dealing with a mounting injury crisis.
Despite the recent setback, Swindon Town remains in 12th place in the League Two table, just two points away from the play-off positions. Flynn remains optimistic about the team’s potential to secure a spot in the top seven with an improved performance in the second half of the season.
Swindon’s defensive struggles have been evident this season, as they possess the third-worst defensive record in League Two. Flynn emphasized the need to tighten up the defensive department, suggesting that reinforcing the backline will be a priority when the transfer window opens in January.
Offensively, Swindon has performed well, scoring 43 goals in 22 games, with loan pair Jake Young and Dan Kemp playing significant roles. However, there is uncertainty about the duo’s future, as they could be recalled by their parent clubs, Bradford City and MK Dons, respectively.
Swindon Town faces Tranmere Rovers away in their upcoming fixture, aiming to turn their fortunes around and solidify their position in the League Two table.
