DONE DEAL : A long line of elite kickers will continue as Auburn Tiger, which landed the signing of his hometown

5-star Auburn high school kicker Towns McGough picks the Tigers

The legacy of exceptional kickers at Auburn continues with the addition of hometown talent, Towns McGough, to the roster. A senior at Auburn High School, McGough boasts an impressive resume, earning recognition as a MaxPreps first team All-American kicker and receiving a 5-star rating from Kohls’s Kicking Camp. Throughout the season, he demonstrated remarkable accuracy, converting 19 of 22 field goal attempts, with all three misses occurring beyond the challenging distance of 56 yards. McGough notably nailed six field goals from beyond 50 yards, including an impressive 60-yarder.

As the third five-star recruit in Auburn’s 2024 signing class, McGough contributes to the program’s ascent to the No. 7 spot in the national rankings according to 247Sports. Despite receiving offers from other institutions, McGough opted for a preferred walk-on position with Auburn, showcasing his commitment to staying close to home rather than heading to Ole Miss. His decision, however, was not without its challenges, as Auburn’s current redshirt freshman kicker, Alex McPherson, is poised to assume the kicking duties in the upcoming season.

McGough’s arrival adds another layer to Auburn’s storied tradition of producing NFL-bound kickers, following in the footsteps of notable names such as Cody Parkey, Daniel Carlson, and Anders Carlson. Although McPherson, who maintained a flawless field goal record in 2023, is on track for a potential NFL kicking career, McGough’s entry into the mix adds anticipation and competition. Notably, Evan McPherson, brother to Alex, is currently the kicker for the Cincinnati Bengals, further highlighting the lineage of kicking excellence associated with Auburn.
