NFL denies Eagles’ appeal of US$100,000 fine, security chief DiSandro’s sideline ban, AP sources say

The NFL has rejected the Eagles’ appeal regarding a $100,000 fine and the league’s decision to ban the team’s security chief, Dom DiSandro, from the sideline for the remainder of the regular season, according to two individuals familiar with the matter as reported by The Associated Press on Friday.

Philadelphia incurred the fine, and DiSandro was prohibited from the sideline due to his involvement in an altercation with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Those familiar with the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the team has already paid the fine.

Despite the ban from the sideline, DiSandro is still allowed to travel and perform all other work duties. The Associated Press had previously reported his sideline ban on December 16. DiSandro is expected to be reinstated to the sideline for the postseason.

Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro banned for rest of regular season

The incident occurred when DiSandro intervened in a scuffle between Greenlaw and Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith during Philadelphia’s 42-19 loss to San Francisco on December 3. Greenlaw, penalized for unnecessary roughness, confronted DiSandro, resulting in his ejection and a subsequent fine by the league.

Following the altercation, the NFL issued a memo reinforcing its policy that prohibits non-player personnel from engaging in physical contact, taunting, or directing insults towards opposing players or officials. The memo emphasized that only game officials or coaches should attempt to break up altercations, with violations carrying the potential for fines or suspensions.

During the appeal process, DiSandro met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. DiSandro, who has been with the Eagles since 1999 and also serves as a senior adviser to general manager Howie Roseman, oversees safety and security matters for players, coaches, and executives within the organization. Additionally, he manages security at the team’s training complex, ensures security measures for team travel, and provides education on the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
