The Star reports that Sheffield Wednesday striker Lee Gregory is attracting interest from an undisclosed League Two team. The club faces a decision on the 35-year-old’s future as the January transfer window approaches. Gregory, who has fallen out of favor since Danny Rohl’s arrival, may part ways with Sheffield Wednesday this winter.
According to the latest update from The Star, several EFL teams, including an ‘ambitious’ League Two side, are keen on acquiring Gregory. However, it remains uncertain if he is willing to drop down a couple of leagues at this point.
In a previous report, The Star mentioned that Derby County, a League One promotion hopeful, might make a move for Gregory in the upcoming month. As Gregory’s contract expires at the end of the season, he could become a free agent next summer, posing a risk for Sheffield Wednesday to lose him for nothing in June 2024 unless they decide to sell him soon or extend his contract.
Having joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2021, Gregory has scored 29 goals in 100 games for the club, aiding in their promotion from the third tier under Darren Moore in the last campaign. The Sheffield-born player, who has previously played for clubs like Mansfield Town, FC Halifax Town, Millwall, Stoke City, and Derby, is currently lacking playing time and may benefit from a change of scenery to maximize the final seasons of his career.
Sheffield Wednesday is set to play against Preston North End at Deepdale this evening.
