How does losing backups to transfer portal affect Alabama?

Alabama Loses Tight End to Transfer Portal

The junior college recruit spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa, but Alabama football faces another transfer portal announcement on Wednesday. Junior tight end Miles Kitselman, originally from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, revealed his decision to enter the transfer portal via social media.

Kitselman, initially an offensive and defensive lineman at Lyndon High School in Kansas, caught the attention of Alabama while scouting teammate Malik Benson from Hutchinson CC Blue Dragons. During his time with the Crimson Tide, Kitselman played in 18 games over the past two seasons, primarily serving as a rotational tight end and contributing on special teams. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 250 pounds, he made two receptions for a total of 18 yards in a 2022 game against the Utah State Aggies during a decisive 55-0 victory.

As a true junior, Kitselman has one remaining year of eligibility. His decision to transfer makes him the seventh player from the Tide to do so this offseason, joining others like Anquin Barnes, Thaiu Jones-Bell, Ja’Corey Brooks, Tyler Buchner, Isaiah Hastings, and Shazz Preston. The players have a five-day window to enter the transfer portal following the conclusion of their season, indicating that more departures are likely.

Despite these losses, Alabama is set to have a solid tight end lineup for the 2024 season. Seniors CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts, along with junior Amari NiBlack, are expected to lead the position group. Additionally, underclassmen such as Danny Lewis Jr. and Ty Lockwood will be vying for increased playing opportunities.
