Charlton Athletic working on deals for Manchester City, West Ham midfielders
Charlton Athletic is actively pursuing deals for midfielders Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City and Conor Coventry from West Ham, as reported by South London Press journalist Richard Cawley. The club, under manager Michael Appleton, is entering its first transfer window with the aim of shaping the squad for improved performance in the second half of the season.
Currently positioned 14th in the table, Charlton Athletic faces a considerable gap of 14 points from the League One play-offs and is only six points clear of the relegation zone. Recent results, including three consecutive defeats and just one win in nine games, highlight the need for reinforcements.
Encouragingly, it has been confirmed that Charlton Athletic has extended an offer to West Ham midfielder Conor Coventry, who was recently linked to the club. Additionally, the club is working on a loan deal for Manchester City midfielder Lewis Fiorini.
Both Fiorini and Coventry are experienced midfielders in League One, having also been tested in the Championship. Importantly, they have previous familiarity with manager Michael Appleton, having worked with him during stints at Blackpool and Lincoln City.
Fiorini, currently under a long-term contract with Premier League title-holders Manchester City, is eager to gain more senior football experience after spending the first half of the season with the club. On the other hand, Coventry’s contract with West Ham is set to expire at the end of the campaign, potentially making his loan move an opportunity to showcase his skills and attract future suitors.
The potential acquisitions of Fiorini and Coventry reflect Charlton Athletic’s proactive approach in the transfer market, aiming to bolster the squad and address the team’s performance concerns in the coming months.
