Swansea City, the Championship rivals of Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, and Sheffield Wednesday, have introduced Luke Williams as their new head coach. This move follows the dismissal of Michael Duff over a month ago, with Alan Sheehan temporarily taking charge. Despite being a strong contender for the permanent position, Swansea has chosen Williams.
Williams joins from Notts County, where he played a pivotal role in their promotion from the National League last season. He is no stranger to the Swansea.com Stadium, having previously been part of Russell Martin’s coaching team. Swansea’s chairman, Andy Coleman, expressed confidence in Williams, stating that the meticulous selection process led to the decision. Coleman believes Williams aligns with the club’s vision and embodies the qualities of other successful young managers. He anticipates the supporters will be excited about the team led by Williams.
Assisting Williams will be existing staff member Sheehan, along with Ryan Harley and George Lawtey. Sporting director Paul Watson emphasized Williams’ ability to coach the desired style of play, citing his past contributions during training sessions as an assistant. Watson is confident that Williams is a perfect fit for Swansea City and their aspirations.
Meanwhile, Notts County is on the lookout for a replacement, and their first team will be overseen by Jim O’Brien, Tom Weal, and Joao Alves.
