Ipswich Town: George Hirst’s message for fans after surgery

Ipswich Town striker George Hirst has taken to social media to share a brief update following his surgery for a hamstring injury. The industrious forward sustained the injury early in the Boxing Day match against league leaders Leicester City, dealing a significant setback to both player and club.

Manager Kieran McKenna later disclosed that the 24-year-old would require surgery to address the hamstring issue. Hirst has now confirmed the procedure by posting a photo of himself in a hospital bed on Instagram. In the caption, the striker, who has contributed six goals and six assists this season, expressed a straightforward message: “Back soon.”

McKenna provided insight into Hirst’s situation, stating, “George is consulting with a surgeon this week to address a rupture in his hamstring. It is expected to be towards the end of the season before he becomes eligible to play.”

Highlighting the impact of Hirst’s injury on the team’s plans, McKenna added, “We were already looking to add a goalscorer in the January transfer window before George’s injury. Now, with him ruled out for a significant portion of the season, the need for a goal-scoring addition becomes even more crucial.”
