Darren Moore makes Huddersfield Town transfer confession as Terriers targets identified
Huddersfield Town is attempting to enhance their roster in the January transfer window.
Huddersfield Town manager Darren Moore admits the January transfer window is a “difficult” time to sign players as the Terriers try to bolster their roster. Town added two players earlier this month, with Alex Matos coming in on loan from Chelsea and Bojan Radulovic signing from Finnish champions HJK.
The Terriers also chose to recall Brodie Spencer from his loan term at Motherwell, with the defender playing 90 minutes in the two subsequent games against Manchester City and Plymouth Argyle. The Terriers are anxious to add to their ranks, with owner Kevin Nagle.
revealing to BBC Radio Leeds last week that he was looking for the club to make three further signings this window.
Although not prepared to comment on Nagle’s target number, Moore insisted that the club’s recruitment team are working “extremely hard” to get signings done, but stressed that deals are not easily completed in the month of January. Providing a transfer update at a recent press conference, the Terriers boss said: “What I’m going to say to you as a manager is that you know that we’ve expressed an activity in the transfer window, that’s not changed
“As to what numbers we’re going to bring in, I’ll never say that, because I have to illustrate again with the excitement that’s building out there, the January window is a real difficult window to do transfers, it really is.
“There are so many various aspects to it that can work for or against you in the January window. I maintain a neutral perspective and work closely with our chairman and team to remedy the situation whenever possible.We only want to do it if we believe it will benefit Huddersfield Town in the long run. Until then, we will continue to work exceedingly hard. To be honest, there are always things in the works because it’s transfer season. How close they are? It might be so close but so far, it really is [like that].
“I’m really sorry to be in this manner, but I have to be honest, because I’ve got all the fans listening in to me and I like to be honest. They want to know what’s happening at their football club. What I am expressing to the supporters, and to everybody connected, is we are working extremely hard.
“What I would say to the fans is 24 hours is a long time in football, in terms of getting it (a deal done). We’ll continue to work extremely hard, and we’ll see where that takes us.”
Nagle cited an example of where Town had been unable to complete a signing in his matchday diary following Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Plymouth Argyle, with the owner claiming that a newly-appointed CEO was not prepared to sanction a transfer when all other parties were ready for the deal to go through.
“Mark (Cartwright, sporting director) and his team are actually really doing a great job,” Nagle wrote in his diary on X. “They allowed me to listen to the CEO of a well-known football team and how he acted with arrogance.
“A very quality player who was ready to come to us, the example is that his agent was ready to go, the family wanted him to go, he wanted to go, he was really excited about coming to Town, the problem was the chief executive, for whatever reason.”He had nothing against Town, although he was kind of new to the
work and simply stated, ‘I’m not ready to let him go,’ and thus the transaction died, as far as we know. We are looking into some additional options. You find this to be a cutthroat business; we simply need to be a little harsher.”
