The red-and-black half of Milan awoke with the horrible feeling that Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing by bitter rivals Inter wasn’t just a nightmare – it was all very real.
According to this morning’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli did not read the riot act to his players following the humiliating loss at the San Siro. Instead, he “postponed” his discussion with the players until later today, when the Serie A club holds an open training and media session at the Milanello Sports Center.
Milan fans have been in a frenzy in one of the world’s most illustrious cities, fuming following five consecutive derby defeats. With Pioli under increasing pressure, the game versus Newcastle is becoming increasingly more important. Milan are likely to make changes, with former Villarreal star Samuel Chukwueze slated to lead the charge against Newcastle and inject new life into the San Siro. Regardless matter how Pioli shuffles the chess pieces, the media has already made up their minds, labeling Milan “in crisis” according to La Gazzetta.

As Newcastle fans made their way to Milan last night using planes, trains and automobiles they discovered the complexities of their own journey. There are no direct flights from Newcastle and supporters jetted in from Manchester, London or from Ireland to make the trip to roar on their team.

Howe did not get carried away by MIlan’s derby defeat, he said on Saturday: “I’m not too sure if you can over-react to results. We’ve won against Brentford, we’re in a good frame of mind, but we’re not over the top.
“I think it’s very important to control our emotions with another game coming so quickly, but we want to use the positivity of to help our performance.For them, I’ll watch the game, I’ll analyse the derby and that will help my preparation.”
