Centre-back Michal Helik scored his eighth goal of the season to give Huddersfield Town a crucial point at Blackburn Rovers this afternoon.
Huddersfield Town boss Darren Moore was left to rue some “clear-cut chances” squandered as his team settled for a point against Blackburn Rovers. Michal Helik’s ninth goal of the season won the Terriers a 1–1 draw at Ewood Park on Saturday.
However, Jack Rudoni, Bojan Radulovic, and David Kasumu were all unable to convert golden opportunities in the match, as Town went four games without a win in the Championship.
“I have no problem with the boys’ performance,” Moore told BBC Radio Leeds. “The team’s in a good place, in terms of the performance that we’ve been doing, it’s just capitalising and fashioning those chances, and taking them.”Today, we needed to be patient. Our work was good off the ball because we needed to be. Blackburn are a good club; we know what they can do based on their possession metrics, and they’re fairly inventive as a team, but I thought we did well defensively.
“Probably the most irritating thing was that we could have capitalized on the clear-cut chances that we had today, and I thought we would have done well, but they went awry today.
“The pleasing thing for me today was a couple of things. Getting the two strikers (Rhys Healey and Radulovic) on the pitch together was good, we can see what they’re going to bring us.
“Players coming off the bench made us stronger finishing the game, [whereas] in no disrespect to the boys in recent weeks, I probably felt it was making us a little bit weaker, so that was encouraging. Another thing is we get another week to work, and the group will benefit from it going forward. Those were the positives today.”
Town had to come back from a goal down to earn a point at Ewood Park, as Jonathan Hogg’s loose pass was intercepted by Adam Wharton, who slotted past Lee Nicholls to put the hosts in front seven minutes in.
Helik headed home Sorba Thomas’ pinpoint corner to equalise midway through the first half, and Moore was happy with how his side reacted to falling behind.
“The boys didn’t get rocked by that at all (Blackburn’s opener),” Moore told the BBC. “Hoggy is fine with being Hoggy; he is a man’s man in that regard. We answered excellently and then continued the game.
“This squad has faced some adversity this season, and tonight was certainly one where they might have fallen behind, but they never did, and they responded really, really well, and as I mentioned, created some beautiful chances in the game.
