The Green Bay Packers’ 2023 season will come to an end on Saturday night, though it may be longer than many expected when the season began. Indeed, nobody expected the Packers to do much in their first season without Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre at quarterback. Instead, many predicted that Jordan Love and the NFL’s youngest roster would fall to the bottom of the NFC.
And for a while, it appeared like those forecasts would prove accurate. Green Bay began the season 2-5, with all three parts of the club, particularly the offense, struggling. However, Love and his young set of pass catchers rediscovered their groove, and the Packers finished the season 7-3.
For his part, Love concluded the year with the best season a Packers quarterback ever had in his first year starting.

Following the Packers’ sad 24-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night, Favre sent the following message to the team and Love via his X (previously Twitter) account:
Excellent game and a tough loss for my Packers. I’m sure I speak for all Packer fans when I say “we are very proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds”. There’s a lot to be thrilled about.Jordan, keep your chin up because I believe you can be the best Packer quarterback yet.Congratulations 49ers!
Obviously, Love may become the best Packers quarterback in history, which is a huge forecast. Green Bay already had three Hall of Fame quarterbacks (Arnie Herber, Bart Starr, and Favre) and will add another in Aaron Rodgers. Can Love truly outperform all four of them before his career is over?
That remains to be seen, but Love is off to a promising start. He became the first Packers quarterback to lead his team to the NFL playoffs in his debut year as starter. As shown above, his stats outperformed Favre’s and Rodgers’ in their initial years of play.
If Favre is correct, Love has numerous MVP seasons and Super Bowl victories ahead of him.
Which would be exciting for all Packers fans, including those who didn’t want Love to start with.
