Auburn has missed out on a top wide receiver prospect.
The Auburn Tigers have missed out on another top wide receiver prospect.
The Tigers were seeking to add one of the best wideouts in the 2024 class to their already star-studded core of receivers who had committed. However, 5-star Ryan Williams has decided to recommit to the Alabama Crimson Tide after decommitting last year.
“Alabama is and always has been where my heart was since I first began being recruited by them,” Williams was quoted as saying by On3. “I adore the TIDE, and it loves me. I feel confident and committed after implementing Coach Debroar’s approach and developing relationships with him and the staff in a short period of time.
Hugh Freeze and the Tigers worked hard to convince Williams to leave Alabama, where he has been committed since October 2022. They’ve already moved fellow five-star receiver Perry Thompson away from Alabama.
Williams caught 88 catches for 1,641 yards and 24 touchdowns, ran for 700 yards and 15 scores on 57 attempts (12.3 yards per carry), returned two punts for touchdowns, and passed for a touchdown while guiding his high school to a state championship.
According to 247Sports, Williams is a dynamic playmaker who has a “nuclear explosion out of cuts” and “projects as a high-major impact player with high-round NFL Draft upside.”
Former Alabama receiver Calvin Ridley has been compared to an NFL player by a national scout.
The Tigers still have two 5-star receivers committed for the 2024 class.
