Brian Callahan, the Tennessee Titans’ recently hired coach, used Jurgen Klopp’s remarks to describe his approach to his new post.
In his initial news conference on Thursday, Callahan took the podium and admitted that he hopes to put the Liverpool manager’s ideals into effect, after directly paraphrasing him.
‘This is a quotation from Jurgen Klopp,’ Callahan explained. ‘I didn’t want to just take it and pass it off as my own, but he had said it at one point, and he’s a soccer coach at Liverpool.
‘He told me: “When you agree on a common idea and work towards it together, then you can create something very special.” That’s what I believe in, and that’s what we will do here.
Callahan went on to underline that ‘there is no ability to have’
In 2015, Klopp departed Germany to lead Liverpool in the Premier League.
He has also won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League, League Cup, and FA Cup. Klopp is the only Liverpool manager to have won six separate major trophies.
Callahan, on the other hand, is taking on his first head coaching position after working as a graduate assistant at UCLA and for multiple NFL teams.
Callahan was a coaching assistant with the Denver Broncos, who won the Super Bowl in 2016.
He then served as a quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders before becoming the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator.
The Titans hired Callahan after firing Mike Vrabel at the conclusion of his sixth season.
“This is an exciting time for our franchise, and we’re thrilled to have Brian as our head coach,” said Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk. ‘We conducted a thorough candidate search, and Brian emerged as the ideal choice to coach our football squad.
Brian has a track record of achievement and a diverse set of experiences that have prepared him for this chance. His football expertise and excitement for the game stand out, and we believe his leadership abilities will make him a great match for our franchise.
This season, the Titans ended 6-11 and were at the bottom of the AFC South.
Callahan will aim to lead the franchise to its first playoff participation since 2021.
