What Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle said about his team position on league table

Huddersfield Town travels to QPR on Sunday knowing that a defeat would drop them into the Championship’s bottom three.
Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle has stated that his side “have to win” their vital match against relegation rivals QPR this weekend.

Fourth from bottom Town face the third from bottom Rs at Loftus Road on Sunday, knowing that a defeat would send them into the relegation zone at the expense of their opponents.

The Terriers have drawn their previous two games 1-1 against Plymouth Argyle and Blackburn Rovers, both from the bottom half. Town owner Nagle has pushed Darren Moore and his team to be less “conservative” in their approach, admitting that “everybody’s under a ton of pressure” to win three points on Sunday.

In his matchday diary, which was posted on X following Saturday’s draw at Ewood Park, Nagle stated: “We know what quality we’ve brought in (during the transfer window), and I’m really happy with it, so I believe the best is yet to come; we’re just running out of time, and we’ve got to look at that.

CHAIRMAN'S NOTES: KEVIN NAGLE - News - Huddersfield Town

“I’m very worried. I don’t enjoy looking behind us, but an organization named QPR is not far behind us. We play them next week. All bets are off on that one; we must win.

“People want us to fire Darren Moore. Darren is a fantastic guy; of all the coaches and managers I’ve met, Darren may be one of the kindest, if not the nicest, people I’ve ever known. Also, if you look at his resume, from his time as a defender to his [managerial] career, he’s done an excellent job.

“We need to improve the way we promote our formation. I believe that we are actually too conservative.

“I know a lot of managers, and I’ve asked them what they think, and they’re all positive, because that’s the fraternity where you don’t criticize your colleagues. They just stated, “I believe that the reason you’ve tied so much is that your formations are a little more conservative.”

“Does this have anything to do with the fact that we still have 11 injured players? It might. I’m not the manager, but I have to make judgments, and we’re about to hit a wall. We’re 21st, which I don’t like, and I don’t want to play QPR and lose. That’s it.

“I’m quite upset with the previous two matches; I believe we should have won both, but we drew both. I’d rather lose while attacking and being proactive on the pitch than tie a bunch of games. I imagine our supporters would say the same thing.

“Everybody’s under a ton of pressure, and I don’t want to be sitting here a week from tonight in a different spot, let’s just put it that way.”

The Terriers are now three points above third-bottom QPR after Saturday’s draw, with Sunday’s hosts able to leapfrog Town with a win due to their better goal difference.

Nagle was frustrated with his team’s latest result and performance at Blackburn Rovers, which was Town’s 12th draw in 28 league games this season.

“I wanted more, we needed to win, and we didn’t win, we tied,” the Terriers’ owner remarked. “It is something we have. I believe there have been about ten ties this year (under Moore), and ties do not get you into the play-offs, and we are currently on the verge of relegation. This truly upsets me. Darren and the team are completely aware of this.
