Aston Villa are braced for a departure of one of their players – despite the summer transfer window slamming shut for English clubs.

According to rumours, Leander Dendoncker of Aston Villa is a target for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.

Prior to their transfer deadline, Football Insider reports that Fenerbahce is “readying a last-gasp move” for the midfielder. On Friday, September 15, Turkey’s transfer window closes; a last-minute effort to sign the Belgian may succeed.

He is reportedly “free to leave the club” because Unai Emery’s plans do not include him as a result of a number of new acquisitions in the center-midfield position. Youri Tielemans, another member of Dendoncker’s Belgian team, joined earlier this summer, while Nicolo Zaniolo joined at the end of August. Out of the several midfield possibilities, Boubacar Kamara, Douglas Luiz, and John McGinn have played the most minutes this season.

Fenerbahce has two days to submit a proposal to Villa, but they aren’t sure yet whether to make a loan or a permanent offer. The 28-year-old’s representatives have spoken with the Turkish club, and if Villa agrees to his departure, the procedure should go smoothly. Although Fenerbahce has not yet made an offer to Aston Villa, insiders at Football Insider claim that a deal “is possible.”
