DON DEAL : LEEDS UNITED JUST CONFIRM ANOTHER TOP RECORD SIGNING

Leeds United were told to spend more than £10 million to sign Joe Rodon from Tottenham this summer before agreeing to a loan deal.

This season, Leeds’ incoming summer business has been particularly remarkable, with shrewd acquisitions made across the board to increase the quality of Daniel Farke’s team.

The loan market, like with every Championship team, proves to be a fertile avenue for signing excellent players without paying the sums that are generally associated with them.

How did Leeds manage to sign Joe Rodon?
After Liam Cooper suffered a worrisome injury in the first game of the season, Leeds’ centre-back depth was depleted to the point that a fresh acquisition was required immediately.

Following the Welsh international’s stay with Rennes in 22/23, the club quickly reached an agreement with Tottenham to bring him in on a season-long loan.

According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, Spurs first warned the club that they would have to spend an eight-figure fee to sign him:

“Rodon, like Spence, was on loan at Leeds this summer.” Leeds and Tottenham share a close executive relationship, led by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear.

“Despite Spurs’ initial request for an eight-figure permanent offer, United were able to take Rodon on loan for a season.”

Is Shackleton in need of a new contract?

Rodon is worth that kind of money if he can help us get back into the Premier League, but we’ve done well to avoid paying it just now.

We could be looking at a price of £10 million or more if we return to the top flight in 2024, but not right now.

He’s displaying all of the characteristics of someone we should be looking to keep long-term because he’s exactly what we needed.

Rodon is a great aerial threat, a solid 1v1 defender, and the ideal companion for Pascal Struijk.
