Leeds United potential key player is not going to be brought back into the squad this season = DANIEL FARKE reveal

Despite failing to obtain a transfer during the summer window, Leeds United winger Helder Costa will not be recalled this season.

Leeds said goodbye to a number of players who were not actually welcome to stay at the club this summer, considering how they negotiated their moves away.

However, several people saw the deadline pass without a transfer being completed, leaving them in limbo until January and beyond.

What’s new with Helder Costa?
You’d be forgiven for believing Helder Costa had already departed Leeds, considering that he hasn’t been seen in a Leeds shirt since the start of the 21/22 season, having been loaned out twice to Valencia and then Al Ittihad last season.

He cost Leeds £16 million in the summer of 2020 after a good loan term in the club’s promotion-winning season, but has struggled to justify it, with injuries at Wolves earlier sabotaging his promising start to life in England.

He’s now training away from the club, as Daniel Farke announced in August, after being assigned no squad number for this season.

Will he leave?
The Athletic’s Phil Hay has now revealed that the player has three options as things stand at Elland Road, either he can terminate his contract, leave in January, or see out his deal until the summer of 2024.

Speaking on The Square Ball podcast, Hay said this about Costa:

“We’ll see what happens. The expectation was he would go. Farke said himself, Costa wanted to leave. Simply no way he can be reintegrated. He hasn’t trained in pre-season, he isn’t familiar with Farke.

“Training on his own. Expected he would go back to Saudi. Could terminate his deal, wait until January and go for six months, or he sits tight until the end of the season and goes at the end of his contract.”

Southampton v Leeds predictions?

Costa needs to leave soon if he wants to revitalize his career, because the longer he stays and earns a living here, the more time he’ll need to catch up.

It’s a shame his career has taken a fall since joining us, because he appeared to be the real deal at Wolves and a wonderful signing.

An exit as soon as feasible is beneficial for all parties involved, which could result in us swallowing the bullet and terminating his contract.
