Leicester City will postpone making judgments on seven players as Enzo Maresca renders his decision.

Although Hamza Choudhury secured new terms this week, there are a number of other Leicester City players whose present contracts are set to expire next summer. The extension of contracts for other players on the team is “not a priority” for Enzo Maresca, despite the fact that Leicester City recently gave Hamza Choudhury a new four-year contract. Choudhury signed a contract this week to stay with his childhood team until 2027, and the defensive midfielder responded by having one of his greatest games of the year in the team’s defeat to Liverpool.

His previous deal had been set to expire next summer. And there are plenty of his City team-mates who, as things stand, are due to see their deals end in 2024. They are Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Dennis Praet

and Alex Smithies. But don’t expect them to be signing fresh terms soon. For Maresca, it’s not anywhere near the top of the to-do list for now. Asked if more contracts were in the offing, Maresca said at his press conference on Friday: “No. At this moment, we are focused on our season, our games. We have time to see it and decide. In this moment, the priority is not that.”

Why then did Choudhury secure a fresh contract? Due to his dedication to his training and to demonstrate that he is on the right track as he adjusts to a new position, according to Maresca, he deserved one. At Anfield, he took Harry Winks’ spot at the base of the midfield, but he has typically been deployed as Ricardo Pereira’s replacement in a dual role that requires him to switch between full-back and midfield.

Choudhury will undoubtedly assist us, so that’s why, Maresca stated of him. And secondly because he merits it. He attends the academy and puts forth a lot of effort. The next step is to take on a leadership role. He’s not the member of the first team from the academy, as I’ve already stated; instead, he is one of the leaders right now. He must exhibit that. His actions demonstrate that.

“He has done a great job training from the beginning. He is capable of performing the duties we require, just like Ricardo is. He is a highly aggressive full-back defensively. It was his best performance on the ball, especially against Liverpool, in terms of serving and displaying personality.
