Matt Phillips took to Instagram to celebrate West Brom’s 4-0 Championship victory over Preston on Saturday.

Phillips, 32, scored the third goal for the Albion at Deepdale, his 30th for the club since signing from Queens Park Rangers in 2016.

On September 30, Phillips posted a snapshot of himself celebrating in rain-soaked Lancashire on Instagram, writing, “+3 and a goal! Congratulations, team!”

Grady Diangana and Darnell Furlong, who both scored in the rout, responded to Phillips’ message, while Karlan Grant, who is now on loan at Cardiff City, sent two heart emojis to the Baggies’ longest-serving player.

Incredible

Phillips has been in excellent form this season.

Although he has a reputation among Albion fans for being made of glass and failing to step up when it counts, there’s no denying that he’s been one of Carlos Corberan’s greatest players in the first few weeks of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

Corberan has had to use Phillips in a variety of roles, with the 16-time Scotland international stepping in on both wings, at wing-back, and even as a striker.

Phillips has two goals and one assist in nine Championship outings this season, with his performance against Preston possibly his best.

It was also West Brom’s best performance of the season, especially given that Preston were unbeaten prior to hosting the Baggies at Deepdale.

Corberan’s men return to The Hawthorns on Tuesday night (3 October) to face struggling Sheffield Wednesday.

It may appear easy on paper, but games like this are generally a nightmare for the Baggies, so maybe Corberan can shake off any complacency in time for that one.

In other West Brom news, one Baggies player has spoken out against Corberan’s views.
