Brighton keen on signing midfielder who ‘wants to take next step’

The rise of Assan Ouédraogo at Schalke has garnered attention from several clubs, including Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 17-year-old progressed through Schalke’s youth system and was promoted to the first team at the beginning of this season, primarily playing as a midfielder. He has managed to score one goal in nine games.

Sky Deutschland reports that Ouédraogo’s performances have sparked interest from Brighton, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen. The focus of the report is on Bayern Munich’s intention to try and acquire the young talent, as they have already scouted him. Thomas Tuchel’s side aims to secure a deal and potentially loan him out to another club. However, they will face competition from Roberto De Zerbi’s team and other clubs in their pursuit of the Germany U17 international.

Ouédraogo will reach 18 years of age next May, at which point Sky suggests that his current contract will be converted into a professional one running until 2027. Additionally, it will include a release clause valued at €15 million to €20 million.
