Nottingham Forest’s defender Willy Boly has been included in the Premier League Team of the Season so far, a testament to his consistent performance during the 2023/24 season under Steve Cooper.
Boly joined Forest in the summer of 2022, and while his addition initially surprised many, his wealth of experience has shone through at the City Ground. His biggest challenge has been maintaining his fitness over an extended period, and Forest’s best results last season coincided with his availability.
The Athletic recently evaluated the season, with Oliver Kay notably impressed by Boly’s contributions. Kay has included the Forest player in his Team of the Season so far, where Boly partners Tottenham’s standout defender, Mickey Van de Ven, in the center-back position.
Boly’s inclusion underscores his remarkable performance this season, having appeared in nearly all of Forest’s matches, with just one absence in the 1-1 draw against Burnley.
Back in 2018, Jamie Redknapp praised Boly as a ‘warrior’ for his heroic displays as a center-back for Wolves when they were establishing themselves as a top-flight team.
Boly’s fitness is of paramount importance for Forest’s progress this season, as he has managed to keep club captain Joe Worrall out of the starting lineup. Despite the influx of new signings, it’s Boly’s experience from the previous season that could prove most valuable. At 32 years old, he continues to be a key asset with much to offer.
Additionally, Murillo has adapted well to the Premier League in recent games. With Boly’s experience alongside him, Forest may have found the perfect defensive partnership at the heart of their team.
