Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has recently discussed the future of talented young forward Pedro Neto, amidst ongoing speculation of a potential transfer to Arsenal. The Gunners have long been linked with Neto, with reports suggesting their interest during the 2022 summer transfer window.
This speculation has resurfaced as Neto, 23, has had an impressive start to the 2023/24 season, recording six assists in just nine Premier League matches. O’Neil commended the former Braga winger, praising his impact both on and off the pitch.
O’Neil said, “Pedro has been exceptional, Jamie [Carragher].” The Wolves head coach spoke to Sky Sports on Monday evening, highlighting Neto’s remarkable quality, his dedication to training, and his commitment to the team’s philosophy, both in possession and out of it.
“He’s been exceptional,” O’Neil reiterated. When asked about Neto’s future with Wolves, the ex-Bournemouth manager remained cautious and stated that the talented winger is content with his current situation at Molineux.
“He’s extremely content at Wolves,” O’Neil added. “He’s enjoying his football, rediscovering fantastic form after a challenging period of injuries and loss of form. He’s settled and happy at the club, and we aim to support his ambitions while he’s with us.”
Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell recently urged his former club to consider making a move for Neto sooner rather than later, suggesting that Neto could provide competition for Arsenal’s right-winger, Bukayo Saka. Campbell expressed his views on the Highbury Squad podcast, proposing that Neto, alongside players like Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney, would be an excellent addition to the team.
Campbell highlighted that Neto’s youth would allow him to rotate with Saka, preventing fatigue and ensuring effective competition within the squad. Campbell believes that Neto could be the ideal complement to Saka in Arsenal’s setup.
