Former Buccaneers’ Super Bowl Winning TE Works Out for Baltimore Ravens

O.J. Howard, former tight end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Super Bowl champion, recently underwent a workout with the Baltimore Ravens, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This move comes in the wake of an injury to the Ravens’ All-Pro tight end, Mark Andrews, who sustained an ankle injury in their recent game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Andrews’ injury, believed to be a result of a ‘hip-drop’ tackle, has led the Ravens to explore potential depth options at the tight end position. While there is optimism regarding Andrews’ return during the current season, the Ravens are taking precautionary measures by evaluating available options, including Howard.

Drafted 17th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft from the University of Alabama, Howard spent the first five years of his professional career with the Buccaneers. Despite being a highly regarded tight end prospect out of college, Howard struggled to live up to the expectations that accompanied his first-round selection.

2022 NFL Free Agency injury history: Buffalo Bills TE O.J. Howard - Buffalo Rumblings

During his tenure with the Buccaneers, Howard amassed 119 receptions, 1,737 yards, and 15 touchdowns, showcasing his capabilities as a serviceable tight end. Unfortunately, his career took a hit when he tore his Achilles in 2020, and he was unable to regain his previous form after the injury.

Following his time with the Buccaneers, Howard had stints with the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders. In 2022, he played for the Houston Texans, starting 10 games but only managing 10 receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

As Howard aims to make a comeback in the NFL, the Ravens’ interest in him reflects their strategy to ensure adequate depth at the tight end position.
