DON DEAL : Charlton Athletic has finally confirm new Director

Will Abbott, who has been with Brighton for nearly 12 years, is set to depart the club to assume the role of Director of Performance Services at Charlton Athletic. Having joined Brighton in 2012, Abbott held various positions in sports science, strength and conditioning, and leadership roles within the Academy. In January 2022, he took on the role of Performance Manager, overseeing medical, sports science, and strength and conditioning provisions across Brighton’s Academy and senior men’s and women’s teams.

Abbott will serve a notice period at Brighton before officially joining Charlton in the early part of the New Year. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing performance services across the entire Charlton Athletic club, including medical, nutrition, sports science, and psychology for all teams.

Charlton’s Technical Director, Andy Scott, expressed his confidence in Abbott, highlighting him as the standout candidate during the interview process. Scott emphasized Abbott’s decade-long experience at Brighton and his extensive knowledge, believing that Abbott’s contributions will help elevate performance standards throughout the entire club.

Josh Hornby, who has been with Charlton for nearly 12 years, will continue in his role as Head of Physical Performance, maintaining a hands-on focus with the senior side. Abbott’s departure marks a significant transition for both clubs, and his expertise is expected to contribute to Charlton’s commitment to excellence in performance departments across all levels. Abbott’s involvement in events like TGG’s Recovery Webinar showcases his industry knowledge and engagement in sports science and performance discussions.
