The Kansas City Chiefs are currently facing challenges as the regular NFL season approaches its end, and former Chiefs player Dante Hall, who was honored in the team’s Ring of Honor earlier this year, has offered some advice to quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Speaking on Good Morning Football on December 27, Hall suggested that Mahomes should embrace a more methodical approach, emphasizing the importance of relying on shorter, safer plays like checkdowns and swing routes.

Hall expressed his admiration for Mahomes but urged him to shift focus from the spectacular plays the team has been accustomed to over the past five years and instead embrace a more controlled style of play. Despite coaching efforts to encourage quicker releases and plays near the line of scrimmage, Mahomes has at times struggled to consistently utilize checkdowns to sustain drives.

In the recent game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day, Mahomes completed 21 of his 27 passes within five yards of the line of scrimmage, with 17 of those completions at or behind the line of scrimmage. However, the strategy did not yield enough points for victory, highlighting the need for improvement in other areas, particularly reducing turnovers.

Hall also directed advice towards Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, speculating that Nagy may be a factor in the team’s offensive challenges. Hall noted that when Eric Bieniemy was with the Chiefs, there was a perceived lack of discipline and issues like dropped passes were less prominent. Hall suggested that Nagy, as the offensive coordinator, may need to take responsibility for addressing these concerns and getting the team back on track.

Lastly, Hall emphasized the significance of positive body language for the team as a whole on game day. He highlighted the impact of players’ demeanor on the sideline, suggesting that a more positive and confident approach, akin to the team’s demeanor in Mahomes’ earlier years, could contribute to success.

Looking ahead, the Chiefs, with a record of 9-6, are set to face the Cincinnati Bengals (8-7) in their final game of the 2023 season at Arrowhead Stadium on December 31. The game will be broadcast on CBS and ABC at 3:25 p.m. Central time.
