£15m release clause identified by Newcastle as Eddie Howe eyes striker

As per The Times, Eddie Howe holds a strong admiration for Serhou Guirassy, the striker from Stuttgart, who is available for a reasonable fee this month. Guirassy, a prolific goal-scorer, has scored 19 goals in 16 appearances across various competitions, with only Harry Kane surpassing him with 21 goals. Despite his commitment to compete for Guinea in the African Cup of Nations, Newcastle might find his availability for £15 million to be a great deal, especially in light of their financial constraints due to the ongoing Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues. According to a transfer update by The Times’ North-East reporter, Martin Hardy, Howe’s primary focus has been on securing a midfielder, with Kalvin Phillips being a player of significant interest. However, there is also a desire to add another forward to the squad. Given Callum Wilson’s recurring injuries and Alexander Isak’s fitness concerns over the past 18 months, this pursuit makes practical sense.

Hardy emphasizes that Guirassy is eager for a move to England, indicating his willingness to join St James’ Park if the clause in his current contract is activated.
