NASHVILLE— Former Stanford coach David Shaw is in the running for the Tennessee Titans’ coaching job. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Shaw will conduct interviews with Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk and general manager Ran Carthon this weekend. Shaw can interview in person, although other candidates currently employed by NFL teams must do so virtually until January 22. Furthermore, the Titans did not need to request an interview with anyone to meet with the former Stanford coach. Shaw is Cardinals history’s winningest coach, with a 96-54 record over 12 seasons. During Shaw’s tenure, Stanford won three Pac-12 Conference championships in four appearances and two Rose Bowls in three
Shaw interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday and last season for the Denver Broncos job, which went to Sean Payton. He also has NFL coaching experience as an assistant for the Ravens, Raiders, and Eagles. Shaw is one of 11 current and former NFL coaches anticipated to compete for the Titans’ coaching position. Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown have all conducted their first interviews.
Brian Callahan, the Bengals offensive coordinator, is slated for a follow-up in-person interview next week. The Titans have sought interviews with Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions, as well as Brian Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles.
