Alan Shearer is usually seen at the Match of the Day studios or on a podcast with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.
However, for the first time in 38 years, the renowned striker chose to stand among the away fans during Newcastle United’s FA Cup win at Fulham.
It wasn’t pleasant for Eddie Howe’s team, but they not only got their name in the hat for the next round, but they also kept a much-needed clean sheet.
Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn, two boyhood Newcastle United fans, scored.
With Alan Shearer in the stands at Craven Cottage, it was probably apt.
Unable to contain his enthusiasm, the 53-year-old tweeted, ‘What a night it was’, as he was photographed in the away end with his family.
The Toon Army fans would most likely ask him to attend additional games because the team’s long-awaited victory was well-deserved.
Can Newcastle regain some form?
The squad has had a difficult few months, falling from first to tenth in the Premier League league.
Whilst injuries have hit the team hard, so have the defensive frailties, but that’s why the clean sheet was needed at Fulham.
But it’s not going to get any easier because Newcastle now travel to Villa Park on Tuesday night for what is the toughest away game in the Premier League this season.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have only dropped points in one home match this term and they will be looking to continue their title push against a refreshed Newcastle team.
Whilst Villa can fall back on that incredible home form, the Magpies will point towards the beating they dished out at the start of the campaign.
That 5-1 win for Newcastle seems a long time ago now and it just proves how opening games really mean jack over the course of the campaign.
