Newcastle United has not had a particularly easy season.

While Eddie Howe’s side has achieved notable victories over high-flying Aston Villa (twice), both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, consistency has been a concern.

Whether or not Newcastle’s injury issue and the resulting exhaustion are exclusively to blame is debatable, but it must be disregarded.

Indeed, there have been some low points this season. Especially away at Bournemouth in November, when Kieran Trippier addressed a furious fan following a defeat.

She is also said to have informed the team that she wishes she could have assisted.

The Athletic has recently provided additional insight. They now allege Staveley was in tears and swore to make signings in January if feasible, which unfortunately did not happen.

They report one source as saying that the time when the loss on the south coast occurred: “We’d fallen off a cliff.”

With PIF set to look for ways to bring more money into the club, it appears that a busy summer may be expected.

While January was difficult due to FFP constraints, iNews reported last month that supporters should “brace” themselves for a huge rebuild with some large incomings, even if Bruno Guimaraes is sold.
