Baltimore Orioles’ new ownership group wasted no time as the team announces two new potential trade

MLB news: The Baltimore Orioles’ new ownership group wasted no time demonstrating that they were willing to add players to help their team compete. A day after the new owners were announced, they signed former Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.
In exchange for Burnes, the Orioles traded LHP DL Hall, INF Joey Ortiz, and their 2024 Competitive Balance Round-A draft pick. Both Hall and Ortiz are MLB players, with Hall debuting in 2022 and Ortiz in 2023. Despite losing their 34th overall draft pick in 2024, they still have two early picks at 22 and 32.

As significant as this trade is for both clubs, the Orioles were also reportedly in talks with the Chicago White Sox about 2022 Cy Young runner-up Dylan Cease. Recently, some of Baltimore’s trade offer were made public.

The Baltimore Orioles’ trade offer for Dylan Cease (Chicago White Sox) looked eerily similar to the Milwaukee Brewers’ Corbin Burnes deal package (MLB News).

According to Bob Nightengale, Baltimore’s trade proposal to the Chicago White Sox for Dylan Cease included several of the same players. Nightengale went on to say, “the Orioles offered basically the same package for Cease, along with another player.”

Orioles address biggest need by landing ace Corbin Burnes from Brewers

Had the two parties reached an agreement, this trade proposal would have brought the White Sox one more piece than the Brewers acquired. Cease has two years of team control remaining, while Burnes will be a free agency at the end of the 2024 season, so it’s not surprising that Chicago would have added one more player.
