Green Bay Packers: Defensive Coordinator Relieves Another Coach Of His Duties

Jeff Hafley, the new defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, is working quickly to assemble his defense. The Packers had previously relieved veteran defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery and replaced him with Vince Oghobasse.

The Packers have reportedly parted ways with another defensive coach.

According to a source, two #Packers defensive assistants will not return as new DC Jeff Hafley develops his staff: passing game coordinator Greg Williams and inside linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti.

Olivadotti will join the staff of new #Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald.

On March 10, 2023, Greg Williams joined the Packers. Williams has 14 seasons of NFL coaching experience, including four years as the Arizona Cardinals’ cornerbacks coach from 2019-22. He will join Green Bay in 2023.

He anchored a cornerback corps that helped Arizona rank second in the league in yards allowed per pass in 2022 (10.10), the Cardinals’ greatest total since the

The AFL and the NFL merged in 1970. In 2020, he coached second-year cornerback Byron Murphy Jr., who became the first Cardinal to have multiple sacks and fumble recoveries in the same season since 1982.

He also worked as the Chargers’ assistant secondary coach from 2013 to 2015, where he collaborated with 2013 and 2014 Pro Bowl pick Eric Weddle.

In 2023, the Packers were ranked 17th in the league in terms of passing yards allowed per game (335). They also gave up 37 passing touchdowns and 7 passing touchdowns in the playoffs (two games).
It will be intriguing to watch who the Packers bring in to replace Williams in an effort to move the team back into the top ten.
