This is good news. Daniel Kanu’s contract was set to end in June, but he has already signed a new one until 2027.
If our young academy players perform well, other teams will want to sign them. Assume we ever had a boss that higher-level teams sought to poach. Because he was good!
Except for a few exceptions, every team sells its finest players. At our current level, we have no chance of retaining our good young players, but we can put them on nice contracts and then negotiate hard from a position of strength.
So, excellent news about Kanu today. He works hard both on and off the pitch, and he has returned from loan at Southend significantly stronger and with the ability to make a significant difference in a game. I don’t believe he is a proper no. 9, but he may be an excellent foil up front in a three.
Now, we’d like to see Daniel and Miles play together in the first team, as they did in the youths. That’d be something.
Leaburn’s contract runs through the summer of 2025.
