‘Our best players’ – Wolves boss Gary O’Neil comments on Pedro Neto’s future amid Spurs links

Gary O’Neil has denied that Wolves intend to move reputed Tottenham target Pedro Neto following his latest performance against the Lilywhites.

Neto appears to have matured this season, with his strong performances reportedly catching the interest of numerous suitors.
This includes Spurs, according to The Sun, who revealed earlier this month that Ange Postecoglou’s side and Arsenal, their North London rivals, are also planning summer moves for the Portuguese star.

This was confirmed by talkSPORT a few days ago, with the publication claiming that Tottenham and Arsenal are leading the hunt for the 23-year-old, with the two London clubs said to be ‘bracing themselves for a transfer tug of war’ over the player’s signature.

The publication further added that it would take an offer of around £60m to take the winger away from the Molineux Stadium at the end of the season.

Neto showed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday just why so many clubs are keen on him, with the former Braga star proving a handful for the Spurs defence throughout the 90 minutes.
Wolves do not want to sell Pedro Neto
On the back of the showing, O’Neil showered praise on the winger and insisted that the West Midlands club have no intention of losing him.

The Wolves boss said about Neto after his side’s 2-1 win over Tottenham (via The Standard): “His strengths are incredibly strong. His athleticism and his pace are excellent. His quality on the ball or when he is trying to find a pass at the end of it is excellent.

“I am still working hard to develop some aspects of him that I believe he needs to improve. He is aware of our previous discussion… about how much he can contribute for the team…out-of-possession situations and still some ball comprehension.

“He understands that we want to enhance him. It would be quite lazy of me to say, ‘Oh, he is terrific’ and then let him get on with it and see how well he performs. I still want to challenge him and see how he does. I still want to push him to be as close to ideal as possible as a wide player.

“I have been asked a few times about the summer already. I am not interested in discussing Pedro Neto leaving the football club. He is a fantastic player that we spent a lot of money on and have worked very hard on. As far as I am concerned we do not want to lose our best players. We have a long way to go yet this season and hopefully, he stays with us.”

With Neto contracted to Wolves until 2027, they are in a strong position and are likely to demand big money for him. The 23-year-old’s value will only continue to go up if he keeps delivering performances like the one he did on Saturday, thus making it even more difficult for Spurs to do a deal.
