Charlie Austin, Swindon Town’s striker, believes Gavin Gunning is the ‘ideal man’ for the full-time managerial position.
Swindon Town appointed the Irishman as interim manager until the end of the season after parting differences with Michael Flynn.
In the summer, the League Two club must decide who will take over as permanent manager.
According to the Swindon Advertiser, Austin has stated clearly who he wants: “For me, I am here for the season, but Gav is the perfect man for the football club right now. As you can see, he is familiar with the football club, the players, and the environs.
“Who else will we bring in? It becomes all new all over again, and the football club does not need that; they require consistency in what they want to do.”

Gunning, 33, is a young manager, but he has potential.
It makes sense to turn to him ahead of the next season because he is already familiar with the club and its players. It just depends on whether the hierarchy prefers someone with greater experience.
He has won two of his opening eight games in charge, drawing four and losing two in the other matches.
The Robins are comfortably sat in mid-table and can start thinking about the next campaign as they look to get themselves back into League One.
Gunning linked up with Swindon in 2022 under Scott Lindsey and has stayed with them since, holding a couple of different roles.
As a player, he was a defender who made over 350 appearances before hanging up his boots a couple of years after a final spell in non-league at Chesterfield.
The Dublin-born man also had spells at Blackburn Rovers, Dundee United, Port Vale and Forest Green Rovers, among others.
Swindon are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Field Mill to face top of the table Mansfield Town.
